Compensation For Bird Flu Losses

Sir,
This has the reference to a news-item, wherein some poultry businessmen have
claimed compensation for the loss of the birds in the reported bird-flu virus.
The logic behind such a demand is beyond comprehension. Poultry farming is a
business and has hazards of loss as in any other form of business. They should
therefore have insured against such losses. It is certainly not desirable to pay
compensation from the exchequer, to which a large number of vegetarians
contribute,
for a cause wherein a huge number of innocent birds are destroyed everyday.
